There is a unique, marvellous landscape that extends for 181 square kilometres between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso. It is amid these gentle hills that one of the most beloved wines in the world is produced, Prosecco. And on 7 July 2019, the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene were declared a World Heritage Site. The official UNESCO description reads: “…It is thanks to this large, peaceful army of workers and thanks to their love for their land that it has been possible to preserve these beautiful hills and create a strong bond between man and the countryside. The result of this strong bond is an extraordinary example of how this ancient culture is so deeply rooted in its land.”

The Dolomites soar majestically towards the sky and turn pink when the sun caresses them. They wind through three regions (Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino Alto Adige) and were declared a World Heritage Site in 2009. The UNESCO territory covers an area of more than 140,000 hectares, in five provinces, and it includes 18 peaks rising over 3,000 metres above sea level. Le Corbusier, one of the most famous architects of the 1900s, called them “the most beautiful architectural opus in the world”.

Two households, both alike in dignity
(In fair Verona, where we lay our scene),
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
(W. Shakespeare – Prologo Romeo and Juliet)

It is universally celebrated as the “city of love”, where one of William Shakespeare’s most famous works is set: every year, thousands of people visit the balcony from which, it is said, Juliet called out to her sweetheart. However, Verona, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, is much more, too, thanks to its countless architectural works of art, just one of which is the majestic Arena. This is a venue like no other in the world, with a magical and rich programme of events that attracts vast audiences from all over the globe. Strolling through its streets you are struck by the magnificence of its History, admiring the splendid aristocratic palaces, remembrances of past glories, and the imposing military buildings, such as Palazzo Barbieri, which is now the Town Hall, and Palazzo della Gran Guardia.

The municipality of Montagnana is located in the province of Padua. It is acknowledged as one of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy, and has been awarded the Orange Flag from the Italian Touring Club for its historical and architectural attractions. Montagnana is actually one of the best-preserved fortified complexes in the world. Its walls, which are almost entirely intact, date back to the fourteenth century and are punctuated by 24 towers around 20 metres high, surrounding and protecting the town. Passing through the walls of Montagnana is like stepping back in time: the Old Town is characterized by a layout that has not changed in 7 centuries, and it contains a wealth of buildings of enormous historical and artistic value.
