Colli Euganei: the wines to toast Christmas with an excellent vintage

Great satisfaction for the wines of the Euganean Hills
that have obtained important awards for their high quality.
Even in such a difficult year, let’s toast to life.

The Euganean Hills are the protagonists of this Christmas. This year, more than the others, we toast Italian for the holidays.

Spaced out, safely, not assembled, but let’s toast. To life and recovery.

Why we are here and why in 2021 we will get up and get our lives back. A message of optimism comes precisely from Vò, the town in the province of Padua that has suffered so much and was in the eye of the Covid hurricane, which just broke out in March 2020.

Here is the headquarters of the Consorzio Vini dei Colli Euganei, which brings together the producers who on this very varied volcanic territory they cultivate vines and make quality oenology .

“The 2020 harvest was excellent”, explains Marco Calaon, President of the Consortium. “From an agronomic point of view, the six months of drought in spring meant that budding was not important and therefore that the quantities of grapes were not excessive. The subsequent rains and the average temperatures that were not high between June and July allowed the grapes to ripen regularly. The quality of the vintage promises to be interesting, therefore, thanks to an optimal organoleptic development of the grape “.

Respect for the regulations, an ancient winemaking tradition and a work in the cellar that respects the product in 2020 gave several satisfactions and earned important awards.

Here are the best classified, an excellent suggestion for a prestigious gift, or to uncork for party lunches and dinners.

The Three Glasses of Gambero Rosso 2021 have been awarded to Colli Euganei Cabernet Borgo delle Casette Ris. 16 of the Il Filò delle Vigne winery and the Colli Euganei Merlot Ris. ’15 of the Vignalta Company.

At the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2020, held in Brno in the Czech Republic, one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world: the Colli Euganei Ottomano Rosso Riserva 2016 by Montegrande Cristofanon had the Grand Gold Medal and Winery “Rivelazione Italia“, that is the recognition that goes to wines that have achieved the highest score in seven different categories.

Gold Medal also to the Euganean Hills Reserve 2016 of Tenuta San Zibio and Silver Medal to the Fior d’Arancio dry 2019 and Fior d’Arancio sparkling wine 2019 by Cantina Colli Euganei.

Satisfaction also at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) another wine competition among the most authoritative.

Fior d’Arancio 2019 from Vigna Ròda, Alpianae Passito Fior d’Arancio 2016 from Vignalta and Animaversa Manzoni 2017 from Monteversa deserved the silver medal. D + Riserva 2016 by Maeli, Animaversa Rosso 2016 by Monteversa, Scarlatto 2016 by Vigna Ròda, Etymo 2016 by Zonin and Infinito 2015 by Maeli, were awarded the Bronze medal.

In the selection of VeronaFiere Five star wines 2021, as many as 13 labels were classified with a score over 90 and therefore are published in the 5StarWines Guide – The Book and are included with tasting notes and scores in the Vinitaly Directory Catalog and in the Vinitaly App.

In the “Italian Quality Award” Wine Competition, which aims to enhance Italian excellence through a blind tasting by a commission of experts from different Regions, Terre Gaie‘s Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio DOCG won in the category Sweet White Sparkling Wines VSQ, DOC VSQ, IGT VSQ; the Parco del Venda Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio DOCG Passito 2018 by Vitivinicola Parco del Venda won in the DOC Passiti Wines category.

In addition, in October, a different award arrived for the Euganean Hills Winery, the Travel Food Award 2020 as the best food and wine destination, given by GIST, the Italian Tourist Press Group to a territorial marketing project.

In fact, the winery has created a solidarity-labeled bottle of Serprino Spumante Doc Colli Euganei and Rosso Doc Colli Euganei.

For each bottle sold, one euro is allocated to the University of Padua and the team of Professor Andrea Crisanti in support of scientific research in the fight against Covid-19, while 10 cents go to the Municipality of Vo ‘for tourism promotion.

It is therefore a recognition of the ability to transform the collective drama of Vò and the cellars of the Euganean Hills, hard hit by the health emergency, into a great opportunity.

The prestige of the wine of the Euganean Hills is therefore clearly growing. “The wine growing area is, at a pedoclimatic and ampelographic level, one of the most interesting in Italy”, says Francesco Saverio Russo, wine blogger of wineblogroll.com.

“A great variety of soil characteristics results in a varied production. Moscato (yellow and white) on the one hand and the” Bordeaux “on the other are the two focuses with which the territory is able to express itself more clearly. the hope is that the Euganean Hills will be able to find the attention they deserve as soon as possible. The uniqueness and quality are clear: with greater confidence in their own means, I am sure that next year will be the year of the Euganean Hills “.

A good reason to uncork them in 2021.
