Earth Day, the hotel industry is increasingly eco-sustainable

giornata della terra
Earth Day is celebrated on 22 April. Sustainable tourism is one of the new travel trends
Here are our suggestions where to experience stays full of charm and ‘green mood’

Earth Day is the largest environmental event on the planet, to celebrate the Earth and promote its protection. Each year it involves up to one billion people in 192 countries around the world.

Established on April 22, 1970 to emphasize the need for the conservation of the Earth’s natural resources, over time, Earth Day has become an educational and informative event.

Civil society is constantly looking for solutions that will make it possible to eliminate the negative effects of human activities.

Over the years, international participation in Earth Day has grown exponentially. This is the affirmation of the “Green Generation”. These are the generations that will face a major climate challenge in the future.

In this context, the hotel industry has also adopted an eco-sustainable approach, committing itself to offering guests the opportunity to experience exclusive but at the same time respectful of the environment.

On the one hand, hotels are required to improve the sustainability of processes and products: this will be required by increasingly stringent regulations, but also by the new sensitivity of consumers: according to the very young of Gen Z (1995-2003), that for climate change and the protection of the planet ranks first among all concerns on major issues.

For this reason, sustainable tourism is certainly one of the fastest growing trends: travelers are looking for green experiences and stays that do not have a negative impact on the environment.

An example of this is several hotel chains that have opted for green solutions, from the rooms to the restaurant.

There are plastic free rooms, as in the case of  VOIHotels which has chosen natural and sustainable amenities, which significantly reduce the consumption of plastic.

Even the reduction of CO2 is one of the objectives that the hotel industry strives to achieve; Lefay Resorts, for example, is the first Italian company in the tourism sector to sign an agreement with the Ministry of the Environment for projects aimed at neutralizing CO2 emissions.

Let’s not forget the sustainable and Km0 cuisine: more and more chefs are choosing to cultivate their own vegetable garden to offer raw materials that do not negatively impact the environment.

Finally, there are hotel chains that make the green mood a real philosophy: EcoWorldHotel is the first Italian eco-sustainable hotel brand and the first Italian Environmental Quality Mark for accommodation facilities.

HMYP guides you to discover some of the most virtuous hotels and hotel chains in the city, by the sea in the mountains.

Gallicantu, Sardegna

Over three hectares of Mediterranean scrub and anthropomorphic granite forms conceal the 5 rooms and 2 suites of Gallicantu. It is a stazzo retreat a few steps from the village of Luogosanto, in the heart of Gallura.

Gallicantu preserves two houses restored with traditional materials. The main stazzo houses 5 rooms, each one different from the other, a lounge with fireplace for cooler evenings and a wellness area with sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers and a small relaxation area. A little further on are the 2 Igna and Mendula suites.

The old stable now houses the kitchen. Breakfast and dinner are served on a terrace from which you can see the towns of Alta Gallura and Corsica.

At the center of the estate is the swimming pool carved out of the rocks. The Grotto is not to be missed. Already inhabited in pre-Nuraghic times, it is a spectacular cellar for tasting salami, hams and cheeses from nearby farms or from small local producers.

Country life takes place all around with the care of the vegetable garden that feeds the kitchen. Here guests, basket in hand, can collect seasonal vegetables. Then hundreds of olive trees from which the estate’s oil is produced; almond trees, fruit trees, citrus groves and cherry trees of different qualities.
