Comwell Hotels maintains its green lead position

Comwell Hotels named Denmark’s most sustainable hotel chain for the third year running

Sustainability, the green transition and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals have become permanent guests in the high-consumption hotel industry. Comwell has been working to incorporate sustainability across the entire value chain at all their hotels and venues since 2015. This includes efforts related to organic food labels, food waste, recyclability, consumption of electricity, water and heating, good working conditions and product development in collaboration with its suppliers.

Comwell’s committed efforts in this area resulted in the hotel chain being named Denmark’s most sustainable hotel chain for the third year in a row at the international Sustainable Brand Index Awards event.

The Sustainable Brand Index™ is Europe’s largest independent brand study focusing on sustainability. For nine years now, SB Insight, the Swedish insight agency behind the index, has carried out the comprehensive analysis on how sustainability influences branding, communication and business development.

Aided by more than 60,000 consumers and 1,000 influential figures across 8 countries, the study measures and analyses over 1,400 brands across 34 industries.
At the top of the list of most sustainable brands are companies such as COOP, Rema 1000, Thise, Lego and Arla.

Comwell’s CCO Michael Hansen welcomed the news in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Sustainability is something we’re working on across our entire organisation, and every employee has a stake in the green transition. This results in a natural dialogue in our daily work, where we work together to come up with solutions that benefit our environment and guests. We are actively committed to contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and our ambition in that regard remains unchanged from when we embarked on our green transition back in 2015″.

“We are part of a resource-intensive industry, which is why we believe that we also have a responsibility to do what we can to minimise our consumption. That process in particular is largely driven by our employees. We have continued our sustainability efforts during the Covid-19 period and adapted to the new context we find ourselves in. Accordingly, we are thrilled that our guests still identify us as Denmark’s most sustainable hotel chain, putting us in distinguished company alongside other strong brands such as Lego, COOP and Tesla. It demonstrates that we are on the right track with our green initiatives, Hansen says.

In 2021, Comwell will send all its employees on a 2-day sustainability training course with subject-specific themes, and plans to roll out a number of new, exciting and green initiatives across all of its hotels.
