MasterChef-style challenge for the conclusion of Meliá Academy

Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July saw the “Master’s in Hotel Management” take place as the concluding event of the Meliá Academy experience dedicated to managers and key figures of Meliá Hotels International in Italy.

The closing ceremony of Meliá Academy, the managerial project organized by Meliá Hotels International, Newton Management and Il Sole 24 Ore, was held on Saturday 2 July at 1.30 pm with the awarding of the certificates by the representatives of Il Sole 24 Ore, followed by lunch on the terrace of the ME Milan – Il Duca in Piazza della Repubblica. At the conclusion of their Master’s, the participants engaged in a MasterChef-style challenge in the Meliá Milan, which was judged by a Jury of Excellence made up of the celebrated Chef from the Amalfi Coast Don Alfonso Iaccarino, the lecturers of the Master’s Alessandro Pedrazzini and Silvia Moretti, and the representatives of AIPD National, the Italian Association of People with Down’s Syndrome, the NGO with which Meliá developed the “6-Star Hotel” project in 2014: training apprenticeships for youths with Down’s Syndrome in one of the Meliá hotels, a very successful experience that was broadcast on RAI 3 (read more here: https://www.hotelmypassion.com/blog/686/)

For nine months, beginning in October 2015, the managers of Meliá Italy underwent a “full immersion” course, deepening their awareness of general management themes that analyse the various company departments, and preparing themselves to guide new processes related to the company’s ambitious development plans. Once again, Meliá Hotels International is focusing on its talents and highlighting the theme of promoting and acknowledging internal resources as an essential factor for progress.

The team building activity on Friday 1 July at Meliá Milan saw the participants in the master’s compete in groups to prepare a menu with the help of Chefs Don Alfonso Iaccarino and Mario Crespi of Meliá Milan. After the preparations, the contestants served the meal to the jury and were subsequently assessed on the basis of how much each course was enjoyed.

Palmiro Noschese, Melià Hotels International Manager for Italy, thanked the partners in the project, Il Sole 24 Ore, Newton Management Innovation, and Ms Silvia Moretti, a company consultant in the tourism and hospitality sector, for the positive outcome of the training course that she personally promoted.
