Gran Meliá upperscale brand of the Melià Group arrives in Milan and inaugurates a new era.
The iconic Assicurazioni Generali building, Palazzo Venezia, becomes Gran Melià Palazzo Cordusio.

The hotel is the result of an extraordinary project in which the walls of the past blend harmoniously with the contemporary era.
For guests, unique stay, taste and lifestyle experiences.
For the Milanese, a new direction of urban sociability.

Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio is the new iconic address in Milan. Housed within an icon of 19th century Italian architecture, the hotel embodies the ideal of luxury hospitality excellence through its refinement.

An ideal destination to immerse yourself in the exceptional Milanese culture, Palazzo Cordusio is destined to establish itself as a new gourmet hotspot in the city thanks to the collaboration with Sunset Hospitality Group, a leading company in offering unique hospitality experiences, which will propose refined concepts of global inspiration.

Housed within the historic Palazzo Venezia, a jewel of Generali’s heritage and the company’s Milanese headquarters for over a century, the hotel sits alongside its sister property in Rome, Villa Agrippina.

Built in an eclectic style between 1897 and 1901 by Generali based on a design by the architect Luca Beltrami, Palazzo Venezia represented the largest renewal plan for the area which took place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

The project

Generali Real Estate and MHI managed the project with the support of Studio Marco Piva. The studio was responsible for the design and artistic direction of the external facades and all the portions subject to monumental restrictions of Gran Melià Milano Palazzo Cordusio.

An important conservative intervention saw the monumental staircase as the protagonist. The works brought the marble walls and floors back to their original splendor. Conservative intervention also for the original portal with the heading “Assicurazioni Generali” and the mosaic lunette. These are precious testimonies of the previous function of the building. This aesthetic has been reported on all the portals of the historic scale and in those created from scratch to maintain stylistic coherence throughout the hotel.

The redistribution of the internal spaces made it possible to create 84 rooms and suites, preserving the structural parts and restricted elements.

Most of the housing solutions are characterized by imposing windows and private balconies that ensure abundant natural lighting. Some rooms have unique views of Piazza Cordusio and the Sforza Castle, via Orefici, via dei Mercanti and the Duomo.

Alvaro and Adriana Sans’ Studio Asah was entrusted with the interior design project in the rooms and common spaces. The Rubelli fabrics and patterns in the rooms recall Generali’s Venetian roots. For furnishing accessories there are iconic pieces from the most important Made in Italy brands.
