Forte Village Resort – Santa Margherita di Pula

Forte Village Resort actually has more than one ‘forte’. It arose from the entrepreneurial far-sightedness of pioneers. In the Seventies, Lord Charles Forte grasped the tourism potential of this part of Sardinia about 45 Km from Cagliari and introduced Italy to the concept of the luxury resort, instantly bringing it to international recognition. The jet set immediately chose it and made it one of their favourite haunts. It has a forte for continuously accumulating awards. Its prize list reveals that for fifteen years in a row it was judged the World’s Leading Resort. The last time was last year. Pretty impressive, we would say. However, its blazons must not put you off. The Forte is a structure with an exclusive but friendly atmosphere. Admittedly, it is not cheap, but, as the Anglo-Saxons say, it is value for money.

It takes me only an hour to reach the Forte from all major Italian cities.
If I am abroad, it might take a couple of hours to get there. No great change. But I know that when I arrive, I have everything I need, and that is a heavenly feeling.
The first of its spectacular features is the microclimate. There are no cold currents on this stretch of coast; the mountains behind the structure prevent them. On the other hand, it is sunny almost the entire year and the living is good. It is like being at the tropics; what’s more, I was told that the sea here is around two degrees warmer than the rest of Sardinia.
I have arrived. I have been a regular at the Dune for years now but should I so wish, there are another 7 hotels to choose from. And 21 restaurants by the sea or surrounded by nature, with three award-winning chefs, 12 tennis courts, 3 five-a-side football fields, a full-sized soccer pitch, a basketball court, a go-kart track, a bowling alley, a driving range, a putting green and a discotheque. There is even a central square, the beating heart of the whole resort, that makes it another dimension in the eyes of its guests.
But, I confess, like every year, je suis içi pour le Thermae. Which for me, and I say this as a fan, is the most characteristic aspect of the entire resort, unique in Italy and beyond. There is the worldwide patent for its marine oil: natural seawater with a brown colour that is rich in magnesium, which favours ion exchange in the organism. There is the headquarters of one of the greatest experts in the sector, Dr Angelo Cerina, and the collaboration, unique in Europe, of the Research Centre of Medical Bioclimatology, Biotechnologies and Natural Medicine of the University of Milan. I could continue explaining for hours, but, to tell the truth, I feel a certain indolence creeping up on me. I have just arrived and I am already thinking of being pampered in the centre and taking the thalassotherapy trail of six baths with different temperatures and varying saline density. A thought and there I am, finally, free of thoughts and floating in a dream scenario on the famous marine oil, followed by an underwater massage. In a few minutes I will feel no more allergies, stress, aches and pains. Not far away, I see the Bayern Munich football team. They are here, like me, on a retreat, for the same reason. Actually, thinking about it, I have also seen Juventus and Inter here.
Speaking of sportsmen…. Who knows where Alessandro has gone? He told me he was going to the grass court to watch the professionals training.
