110 cum laude: challenge between 5 stars
110 cum laude is instead the reference competition for the world of luxury hotels. Competing for the title with shaker movements, style and elegance are the representatives of the most important 5-star hotels on the peninsula. It is an occasion during which those values that characterize Italian hospitality are put in the spotlight, values imbued with charm and beauty. It is no coincidence that the theme of the competition was the interpretation of the combination of ‘Class and Style’.

Each participant received a key ingredient. Starting from that, he enhanced its peculiarities with an ad hoc recipe.

Thirty-nine barmen in the competition who represented the excellence of Italian 5-star hotels. In addition to presenting and describing their beautiful and delicious cocktails, the barmen were evaluated for the elegance and style with which they prepared it. It was difficult to choose the winners because the level of the participants was really very high.

Here are their names:
first place: Antonio Ferrara – Bar Manager Aman Venice
runner up: Eduardo Bortolotti from Eala Lake Garda in Limone
third place: Carmine Lamberti of Caruso A Belmond Hotel, from

The winners were crowned by a jury composed of the IBA President, Giorgio Fadda, by Rama Redzepi of the Grand Hotel Fasano and reigning champion with 110 cum laude, and by Ilaria Legato, brand designer specializing in high-profile food & beverage.

Conducting and artistic direction is Spiridione Ripaldi, a prominent and highly competent master of ceremonies, accompanied, in the role of “sideline” correspondent, by Shane Eaton, an engineer with a passion for cocktails and columnist, among others, for Class Magazine and Drinks International.

The music performer Andrea Casta opened and closed the competition with 2 exciting live performances on the competition stage with a very high impact.

The location: Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

The perfect combination: a prestigious competition in a breathtaking location and a hotel that is an icon of excellence in Italian hospitality.
On one side, the Portofino Riviera with its evocative glimpses of rare beauty, real gems set in the eastern Ligurian Riviera. On the other, one of the icons of the Italian hotel scene, namely the Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast, a place where a sense of refined hospitality and elegance can be felt from the moment you enter the iconic building, a cradle of welcome in the depths of its soul.

Located in the romantic Gulf of Tigullio, this hotel, part of the Virtuoso circuit, has 119 rooms (including 11 Junior Suites and 16 Suites including 1 Presidential Suite), 2 restaurants, 2 bars, a congress centre, a Health & Fitness Club with Beauty Farm, private Beach Club directly connected to the structure.

Its strong point? To be a ‘legendary’ hotel. Between 2019 and 2020 it underwent an important restyling and today it presents itself to guests with a new functional and sophisticated look.

The Legend member hotel of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts family, often defined with adjectives such as ‘illustrious’, ‘unforgettable’ and ‘incomparable’, has fascinated numerous celebrities who have chosen it for their stay, VIPs such as George Clooney, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Bruce Springsteen!
