Marchesi’s dream comes true at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo

The Gualtiero Marchesi Terrace is unveiled at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo,
the only restaurant that proposes a menu with the iconic dishes of the Maestro

For years, the Maestro of Italian cuisine has been pursuing his desire to open his own Restaurant on the shores of the lake. On the suggestion of his sculptor friend Nicola Salvatore, one fine spring day in 2011, he paid a visit to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, a Liberty-style icon of luxury hospitality on the western shores of Lake Como. From the first meeting, bonds were formed with the De Santis family, owner of the Grand Hotel, and with the historic chef Osvaldo Presazzi.

In the eight years since then, a fruitful collaboration has been established between Chef Presazzi and the students of Marchesi – Daniel Canzian, Brendan Becht, Tiziano Rossetti and, in the last three years, Antonio Ghilardi – who have assiduously and constantly managed to instil in the Grand Hotel team the Marchesi philosophy, with which the greatest representatives of modern Italian cuisine have been formed, from Carlo Cracco to Enrico Crippa, from Pietro Leemann to Davide Oldani, and from Andrea Berton to Ernst Knam.

Last year the De Santis family decided to complete the Maestro’s dream by developing a new organised and functional kitchen that makes the hours the cooks spend there more pleasant, designed with the goal of reflecting and exalting the elegance of the Palace, even behind the scenes. The new spaces stand out for their materials of antique charm, from Carrara marble and French red marble to Venetian seminato and the enamelled ceramics on the walls embellished with copper. The cherry on the cake, making it truly unique, is the splendid vista of Lake Como, which inspires the chefs to work to delight their guests.

With the completion of the kitchens, the collaboration between the Gualtiero Marchesi Group and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo has finalized a path that today celebrates the great cuisine created by the Maestro. With a breathtaking view over the Bellagio peninsula, the main restaurant of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo reopened this season announcing a new concept and a new name; and now boasting the privilege of being the only restaurant in the world proposing the entire menu consisting of Marchesi’s most famous and iconic dishes, which have revolutionised Italian cuisine and brought it to the centre of international creativity.

From Rice and gold to Open raviolo, from the Great fish Antipasto of Lobster and maccheroni, from Dripping homage to Pollock to Red and black homage to Fontana… to all the other dishes or, as Marchesi likes to stress, “works” that alternate with the passing of the seasons. The Gualtiero Marchesi Terrace celebrates the timeless lesson of the Grand Maestro of Italian cuisine and pays tribute to his talent, keeping his precious legacy alive.
