Cocktails, this summer’s trends

estate 2019

On the occasion of World Cocktail Day, the trends for summer 2019 cocktails have been published

It will be a summer dedicated to sustainability and Instragrammability for cocktails.
In fact, according to research conducted by Business Insider, for Millenials, the new cocktail consumers, they have to be sustainable and Instagram-proof.

So away with plastic straws, and make way for the creativity of bartenders, who will have to be able to amaze us with colours and decorations. A battle to the last post on Instagram.

Then there are cocktails with low alcohol content, which are going down a treat especially among the youngest, or those containing legal cannabis, whose edginess makes for some harmless “transgression”.

The ever-popular great classics and their reinterpretations: Negroni, Martini Cocktail, Moscow Mule, Mojito ….
And in this wonderfully colourful panorama, one colour stands out the most: pink. The Pink Flamingos of last year have also struck a chord with bartenders offering Barbie-version cocktails.

There was a preview of what the summer holds for cocktails in Milan on the occasion of the launch evening for the new 2019 openings of Rocco Forte Hotels with ‘The Maestro’ Salvatore Calabrese and Maurizio Palermo, Bar Manager of the Donovan Bar at Brown’s Hotel London.

So, what are the trends for summer 2019?

  1. Green cocktails: beverages with low environmental impact, made from organic and healthy products and served in glasses without plastic straws.
  2. Instagrammable cocktails: chosen for their aesthetics so they can be posted on social media.
  3. Low ABV: low-alcohol cocktails appreciated by younger drinkers and those attentive to healthy dietary habits.
  4. Tequila cocktails: cocktails made from this agave-based liqueur are increasingly popular for aperitifs the world over.
  5. Hybrid cocktails: a mix of two existing cocktails.
  6. Cannabis cocktails: non-alcoholic cocktails ever more loved by Millennials, with that ‘little extra’ transgression.
  7. Cocktails with mushrooms: drinks that reinforce the immune system and fight cholesterol.
  8. Pink Gin: cocktails based on gin coloured pink that are all the rage.
  9. Sparkling cocktails: also returning for summer 2019 are sparkling cocktails with champagne or sparkling wine.
  10. Vintage cocktails: the ever-in-demand traditional drinks or reinterpreted original recipes.
