Singapore Airlines, non-stop flights are back

Singapore Airlines has decided to revive its non-stop connections between Singapore and the USA and has placed an order with Airbus for 63 A350-900s. The signature on the agreement entails an exclusive launch of a new long-range variant of the Airbus A350, and seven of these Airbuses will be upgraded to the A350-900ULR version, which can fly for up to 8,700 nautical miles. The company also has an option on another 20 planes, 4 of which will be confirmed. This will bring the total number of A350s ordered from Airbus to 67, in addition to options on another 16 aircraft.

Delivery of the first A350-900ULRs, which will allow the resumption of the longest non-stop flights in the world between Singapore, Los Angeles and New York, is scheduled for 2018. The aircraft will be fitted with completely refurbished cabin equipment, which is currently in production. Furthermore, the company is considering non-stop flights between Singapore and other cities in the USA. Singapore Airlines flew non-stop between Singapore and Los Angeles and New York until 2013, when the A340-500, the aircraft then in service, was withdrawn. This is further proof of Singapore Airlines’ commitment to responding to and outstripping the expectations of its passengers. This agreement comes at a time when Singapore Airlines is preparing to take delivery of the first A350-900 in early 2016, in line with the company’s commitment to operating with a young, modern fleet.
