Hotel Milano Scala

I have left the office, but I have no desire to go home. It has been a beautiful sunny day and in summer I love to take advantage of the pleasant temperature and light of the evening with a stroll for a spot of window-shopping and people watching. It empties my mind, sweeps away my thoughts and leaves me relaxed. I know how enjoyable my city can be! To all those who tell me that Milan is only a business city, and that if they had to choose a place to spend a weekend in, they would prefer another city, I say, with a mixture of disappointment and adrenaline, that they are wrong!
Milan is a beautiful city, it offers a lot for lovers of art, culture, fashion and Design. Above all, it is the most cosmopolitan city in Italy. In recent years, as part of the preparations for Expo 2015, which is by now almost upon us, it has changed its appearance, becoming more contemporary and more like one of the most modern capitals. And, let’s face it … when you have a hankering for something, nine times out of ten, you can find it in Milan. And this is true luxury!

Brrrr – Brrrr … “Hello? Hi, Lucilla, sure I’m up for an aperitif, you bet! Where are you?”
“In Piazza della Scala is perfect, I’m behind Brera in Via Cusani. What say we meet in the Sky Terrace of the Hotel Milano Scala  … I love it and I haven’t been there all summer. Ok, see you there in 10 minutes.”
Of all the new hotels that have opened in the last few years, Hotel Milano Scala has become one of my favourite haunts, both for business appointments and for relaxing and spending some me-time: it is the only hotel in the city, and one of very few in Italy, to boast Zero Emissions, it has a gorgeous location, the atmosphere of a private home and … it sets you up for the day … sometimes I go there for breakfast because … every morning the maestros of the La Scala Philharmonic play to the patrons. And what can you say about the Sky Terrace on the eighth floor, with the Terrace Garden, positioned on the roof of the hotel, an authentic jewel perfectly in harmony with their “green” philosophy. Opened in May, it provides some of the fruit, vegetables and herbs for the kitchens, for the hotel aperitifs, and for the “gather it yourself” bags for guests of the hotel, the Bar or the Restaurant.

This kitchen garden in the centre of Milan is something special. Great! I’ve arrived and now I can relax in the company of my friend. I go up, because I haven’t booked a table, and before I persuade Lucilla to try the cocktail for summer 2014Gin Strawberry Tonic, based on strawberries, mint, raw cane sugar, gin, tonic, and lime, I want to bask alone for a few minutes in the marvellous view over the spires of the Cathedral and the rooftops of Milan.
